Take advantage of the time...

"Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."- Galatians 6:10

As Christians, I would hope that it is a given that we are to be examples to the world around us.  I would hope that this is not a point up for discussion.  I would also hope that the truth of the above scripture would not be up for discussion either, but I'm afraid by the evidence that is in our world today, we need to talk about it.

The truth of this scripture speaks to the fact that we are to do good to ALL people.  That includes doing good to our fellow Christians.  In fact, this verse states, very clearly, that we are to do good "especially" to our family of believers.  We are to take care of our household brethren.  We are to protect them, care for them, speak highly of them, and never do evil against them.

Some might claim victory over this passage by stating that they treat all people the same...poorly.  All kidding aside, the scipture is clear on this as well.  We are to do "good" to all people.  If we are treating people outside the church better than inside the church, that's wrong.  If we are treating both of them poorly, that's wrong also.

Finally, some might falsely claim victory by doing good to all WHEN they have opportunity.  This would be wrong as well.  The idea is not "when" you have the opportunity, but "while you still have the opportunity.  In other words, we are to do good to all people while we still have the time to do.  There will come a day when that won't be possible any more, whether because those people pass away, we pass away, or Jesus return...but there will be a time.  Therefore, we are to take advantage of the time...do good to ALL people.

In Christ,

Bro. Grant
