He is Risen...

"The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”  - Matthew 28: 5-7 (NIV)

These are some of the best word ever said, yet many of us take them for granted.  Think about these 3 verses for just a moment.  An angel from God comes to speak to these women and begins to comfort them in their grief (and fear).  Immediately, this angel lets the women know that he has knowledge of them as he "knows" for whom they are looking...he understands the situation.  Yet, he says, "do not be afraid."  He has words of comfort in that the Lord is risen, which is great news.  However, don't miss what comes next.  It's wonderful that the Lord is risen, but the angel adds that it is "just as he said."  Jesus has done everything as He said He would.  Jesus knew what was going to happen before it did.  Jesus knew what He would suffer, but He did it anyway.

The angel then gave instructions to go and tell the disciples quickly.  Basically, go and tell the good news and do it now.  Jesus knew whether or not the women would complete this task AND He had gone on before them.  Jesus had prepared the way for them and for the disciples, even if they did not recognize His work.  Jesus kept His promises, and we know this all by one simple, yet magnificent phrase...He is Risen!  If He had not risen, then maybe we would have a reason to be timid, but the fact remains that HE IS RISEN and we have no excuse.  Celebrate the fact that our Saviour is Alive!

In Christ,

Bro. Grant
