FBC Hooks on Mission...

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” - Acts 1:8 (NIV)

One of the best know passages in Scripture detailing a missionary pattern for church is found here in Acts 1:8.  In just a few words we find that the strength of God's work come from the Holy Spirit, not us.  Therefore, when we get tired, we should be relying on God to get us through the struggles since He is the once that gives us power in the first place.  Secondly, we find that we have an important role in being God's witnesses.  We, His creations have the honor and privilege to serve God as His representatives to others.  It's not a dishonor, but an honor to do so.  Therefore, we should not whine about it but look forward to it.  Third, we are given the privilege of being His representatives in many different venues; our backyard, our home state, our nation, even internationally.  Therefore, we have no argument to stand here and say "I'm bored...there is nothing to do."  Lastly, the way in which all of these venues are presented, should cause us to understand that we have the honor of being His representatives in these venues at all times.  What I mean by this is that we do not have to take care of one area before we take care of another.  We should be continually thinking of ways to minister in our backyard, our state, our nation, and the world.  Then, when we have the opportunity to go...we are ready.  Don't wait until you think you are ready to go to prepare.  Prepare now for an opportunity that will arise and be prepared to say yes.

This year, our church is "going" to Hooks.  We are "receiving power" to "be witnesses in Jerusalem" this year.  We will be serving members of our church and our community by doing yard work, repair work/construction, preparing food, and visiting.  As a church, we will be ministering in whatever way we can during our "mission trip" (July 6-10).  If you would like to help or know someone that needs help in the areas that have been mentioned, please contact the church office.

In His Service,

Bro. Grant
